New York city is an adult’s playground; there is so much to see and do you might be overwhelmed by the choices. Japanese girls love playgrounds, but where can you take her to make sure that your date hits a home run. Dating a Japanese girl is a little bit different than you might be used to and Japanese girls sometimes have different ideas about what is romantic and what makes a good date. These tips will help you navigate your way around the big apple and make the most out of everything it has to offer to create a stellar date for you and your Japanese girlfriend

No matter which season it is, there is always something going on in New York. Over the past couple of years New York has put lots of effort into making it a more attractive place for pedestrians including revitalizing and opening many new parks and attractions. Japanese girls love to be romantic on a date by walking hand in hand and for this there is no better place than a park or public space. Don’t feel shy, express your love for the Japanese girl you are going after!

Governor’s Island

Governor’s Island is just one of these great places to go with your Japanese girlfriend, but really it is one of the best. It has all of the elements of a great date in the making: sun (hopefully), water, views, nature, art, and amusements. It is only open in the summertime and only on weekends, so plan your visit well in order to take it all in. It involves a short ferry ride from either Brooklyn or Manhattan. From the ferry in Brooklyn you pass under the famous Brooklyn Bridge and down past Red Hook before arriving. You can even take a bicycle with you, and this might be a good idea as the island has a lot to do and see. Bring a picnic lunch with you and spend some time relaxing on the rolling grassy lawns of the sculpture park. You can impress her with your opinion on Calder’s sculpture there.  The views of the city are spectacular at all times, but stay until sunset and you are in for a real treat. Catch the ferry back as you definitely don’t want to get stuck on this uninhabited island getaway just minutes from New York.

Food Tours

Food is a sure way to win her over and New York has every kind imaginable. Try a food tour to really get the best out of a neighborhood. There is a free Greenwich Village food tour for example. Japanese girls love all kinds of chocolate too so you might want to check out some of the more boutique brands available all across the city. Chocolate has a certain way of setting the mood and delighting all of the senses. While in Greenwich Village you might stop by Max Brenner for a true confectionery delight. For the most luxurious experience, head uptown to maison du chocolat, the award-winning French chocolatier.

Cupcakes and Coffee in Chelsea

Another great way to win her over is to show that you have great taste. She will probably fall head over heels for a man who can enjoy a good cupcake. Japanese girls love cute things and there is a special place in Japanese culture for all things small and colorful and childlike – it’s called ‘kawaii.’ And there is definitely nothing more ‘kawaii’ than a cupcake. Chelsea has a few famous cupcake shops but my favorite is Billy’s Bakery at 184 9th Ave. Not only do they have a delicious assortment of classic cupcakes but some really good coffee too.

Get High: the High Line

While in Chelsea you had better head one block further west and take a stroll on the high line. New York is not known for its opportunities for leisurely and romantic strolling, but the High Line offers just that. Converted a few years ago from a disused freight track, the elevated tracks are now a stunning pedestrian park that runs right through the heart of Chelsea.

Get High Again: Empire State Building

Made famous by countless romantic movies like Sleepless in Seattle, the Empire State Building is an iconic dating spot. Be prepared if you choose to visit that you won’t be the only swooning lovers up there, you will probably see couples of all ages on anniversary dates, engagements, and even wedding parties. There is a reason it is so popular, the charm of this skyscraper and its magnificent views won’t be lost on your date.

Coney Island

Keep the thrills going to keep her heart racing and head out to the old amusement park at Coney Island. It is a bit of a trip from Manhattan, and it might take you almost an hour, but it is worth the ride. You can stroll along the boardwalk at the beach and mingle with the diverse crowds that enjoy this fun spot within easy reach of the city. Buy her something cute and cuddly to win her over and maybe even land a kiss.

Art Spots

If you want to show her your cultured side, the museums in New York City are the best in the world. There are the bigger staples that have huge collections of art ranging from antiquity to today at the Metropolitan Museum and the Museum of Modern Art. Both of these are uptown so you might be able to do them in one day. If you are exhausted you can take a break between the two and dip into central park for some peace and tranquility in the center of Manhattan. Further downtown on Bowery is one of my personal favorites, the New Museum. This museum hosts cutting edge exhibitions and always features some thought-provoking artists younger artists from around the world.

Chelsea is home to the world’s most famous and exclusive galleries. Put on a nice jacket and blend in with the art connoisseurs and investors that frequent these galleries at any time. Ask for the price list if you are interested and you can manage to read it without breaking a sweat. Maybe you’ll find just what you are looking for.

Walk the Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn Bridge

Brooklyn is the hippest of spots in New York City these days and there are many quick and convenient ways to get there from Manhattan using subway or taxis. If you aren’t in a rush, the Brooklyn Bridge is accessible by foot and offers the best views of Manhattan and yet another opportunity to hold hands and take photos. Once in Brooklyn, you will end up at the waterfront of Williamsburg. Head a little bit North to reach the epicenter of cool and a wide variety of casual eateries for lunch or dinner.

Hipster Hunting

Williamsburg is both adored and ridiculed for its epic concentration of hipsters and all that brings along with it: the vintage clothing, bicycle enthusiasts, record shops, and artisanal breweries. It also has a high concentration of Japanese people living there, because these things just happen to be some of their favorite shopping ideas.

You can’t go far in Williamsburg without coming across a trendy boutique or vintage store but I recommend a lesser known little gem called 10ft Singles on the North side of Williamsburg at 285 N 6th St. Here you will find a huge selection and a wide price range to suit any taste and budget.

On weekends, the waterfront of Williamsburg is buzzing with activity as Saturdays attract a massive flea market showcasing the best of Brooklyn from all across the borough, while Sundays turn the focus on food with a massive gathering of food stalls from the best local eateries.

Grab a slice of Pizza

And finally, there is nothing more romantic than getting greasy and fat together. So go ahead and grab a giant slice of pizza to remember your perfect date in New York. My go-to pizza place in New York has become a bit oversubscribed but it is still the best in the city in my opinion. The original Artichoke pizza is on 14th st. between 1st and 2nd avenues. They became so popular at this tiny location that they have opened up branches in Chelsea as well. If the deep dish creamy style of Artichoke isn’t for you there are any number of pizzerias in the city and in Brooklyn that offer all different styles. Another buzzworthy member of this longstanding New York tradition is Roberta’s pizza in Bushwick. Take the L five stops after landing in Brooklyn to Morgan Ave to reach this extremely popular restaurant.

Whatever you choose to do in New York you can’t help but feel romantic in the Spring and Summer and the excitement of it all will leave you with lasting memories. Don’t forget that there is also the famous shopping on 5th Ave. if you are up for a bank-breaking shopping spree. It is well known that Japanese women love to shop and they have a special penchant for designer handbags. Once your date is over, you might be feeling those anxious thoughts and wonder how it all went. There are some tips to help you read the signs and give your date a post-date wrap-up to boost your chances and help you navigate your way to the next and second dates.
